Larry Buttrose has written travel books and, in 2009, published Tales of the Popes: From Eden to El Dorado, 'an account of the lives of the popes from the inception of the papacy up to the burning at the stake of the humanist philosopher Giordano Bruno in Rome in 1600' and edited Speeches of War and Peace. Buttrose has also worked on a stage adaptation of Cervantes' Don Quixote for the Bell Shakespeare Company.
Buttrose has undertaken studies towards a PhD in Creative Writing at Adelaide University.
