BiographyHistory

John McKellar worked as a journalist and had connections with the Jindyworobak poets. He contributed to the serial Merringek, as well as being the associate editor, and published a series of pamphlets between 1933 and 1954, expressing his strong views on a range of subjects including conscription, evolution, Christianity and politics. Five of these were bound together and entitled A Faggot of Thorns (Melbourne: S.John Bacon, [1954]). He wrote for the Anti-conscription Campaign, notably Maurice Blackburn and the Struggle for Freedom (1945) which also included a poem 'In Remembrance of Maurice Blackburn'.
