BiographyHistory

Hilda Champion Andrade (formerly Sinclair) married bookseller Will Andrade in 1907. For part of their marriage, they lived above Andrade's Bookshop in 201 Bourke Street, Melbourne.

Hilda Andrade, who wrote plays published by Will Andrade, had a keen interest in the theatre and acting. This encouraged the development of a theatrical speciality in the bookshop, which supplied plays and theatrical goods to schools and theatre groups. Hilda Andrade's involvement in the management of the bookshop continued after her husband's death in 1938.
