BiographyHistory

Louise was one of 4 children of Sir John Gordon, politician and judge, and his wife Ann Wright (born Rodgers). After an apparently unhappy first marriage she was widowed, and married Dr Edgar Jabez Brown, an ear, nose and throat specialist, in 1915. They lived at 212 Brougham Place, North Adelaide. Her novel Paul Strange was written during a long period of convalescence at this time. For South Australia's Jubilee in 1936 she edited (with others) A Book of South Australia: Women in the First Hundred Years. She was a member of the Victoria League, and was among those who gave financial support to the setting up of the Victoria League's Bush Library for remote outback schools.
