Margot Neville is the pseudonym of the sisters Margot Goyder and Ann Neville Goyder Joske, of the well-known Melbourne Goyder family, and nieces of George Goyder, Surveyor of South Australia. They wrote a number of murder mysteries together between 1922 and 1966, writing both in England and Australia, and publishing mainly in England. Many of their novels were published in German. They also wrote plays, and some of their novels were adapted for the stage.
The sisters collaborated closely, writing together 'word by word', Margot then typing the manuscript. In all they wrote some 28 novels, mostly police procedurals set in Sydney, with detectives Grogan and Manning. 'Although set in Australia, the novels have little local colour' (Oxford Companion to Australian Literature).
