'Alexander Macdonald was born in Sydney in 1915, and spent most of his boyhood in a Catholic seminary school in Scotland. At sixteen he rejoined his father, who was a mining engineer on a north Queensland goldfield. He joined the ABC in Sydney as a continuity writer, and later became a gag-writer for Jack Davey, Roy Rene ('Mo') and other comedians. Macdonald worked in commercial radio, and wrote weekly radio reviews and film reviews (with Bernard Hesling) for Smith's Weekly. He wrote feature articles and humorous columns for many newspapers and periodicals until his death in 1973, as well as conducting radio and television reviews.'
