Sonja Kurtzer was the first Indigenous student to graduate with Honours from Women's Studies at the University of Adelaide. She received the Business and Professional Woman's Prize for the results of her Honours work. In June 2003, Kurtzer was awarded the Australian Federation of University Women's Papendadlu Award for Higher Degree Research for a second time.
