Educated by his father at Scone Public School, Parry was an assistant sales' manager before enlisting to serve in World War II. At discharge he was a Sergeant posted to the School of Administration.
Parry wrote freelance for the Auckland Green Room, Adelaide Chronicle, Newcastle Herald, Scone Advocate and Adelaide Advertiser. He was a fellow of the Bread and Cheese Club, Melbourne.
He performed in Rio Rita and Star Revue, on A.B.C. Queensland and commercial radio in Brisbane, Sydney and Newcastle. The first Australian composer to write, produce and play in Own Australiana for the A.B.C., he also wrote for that broadcaster's Caravan Ramblings, Music Chest of Yesteryear, Glimpses of Plantation Days and Ups and Downs - a series of dramatic farces for commercial radio.
In addition to free-lance journalist, Parry's occupations included drover, sheep station manager, taxation clerk, performer of musical comedy, "supporting artist to Laura Walker, cousin and protege to the late Nellie Melba and commercial traveller...He was also a keen boxer and a Rugby League footballer."
