'Patrick Buckridge was born in Brisbane in 1947 and graduated from the University of Queensland, gaining his doctorate in English literature form the University of Pennsylvania. He taught for several years at the University of Queensland. Since 1981 he has worked at Griffith University as senior lecturer in the School of Australian and Comparative Studies, and he is currently the Head of the School of Humanities. He has published widely on Australian literature, biography and literary history and has a particular interest in the intersections between journalism and literature in Australia. His biography of Brian Penton, The Scandalous Penton, was published by UQP in 1994.'
In 2023, Buckridge was awarded the Australian Dictionary of Biography (ADB) Medal for 'long and distinguished service to the ADB', particulary in Queensland. The ADB citation concluded: 'An exemplary voluntary worker for the ADB over many years, Pat Buckridge has made an exceptional contribution to this national, collaborative project and is a most worthy recipient of the ADB Medal.'
