Educated in Asia and Australia, Raymond Wells has taught in both state and private schools and was for a time Co-ordinator of Studies for the Goldfields area of Western Australia. He served on a tour of duty with the Armed Forces in Vietnam, and after his return to Australia achieved a Masters in Literature. In 2010, he was a PhD student at the University of Western Australia.
