Lyn McLeavy grew up in Melbourne, Victoria in the 1950s. During her adult life she re-located to Hobart, Tasmania. McLeavy's particular area of interest is the lives of Melbourne waterside workers. She wrote the women's history section of Under the Hook : Melbourne Waterside Workers Remember Working Lives and Class War, 1900-1980, 1982.
