Andrew Urban was a journalist working in the United Kingdom before migrating to Australia at the age of 20. 'With some 35 years experience as a journalist, half of them specialising in the arts and entertainment, Andrew has been a seasoned interviewer, feature writer and news reporter, having contributed regularly to The Australian, The Bulletin, Cinema Papers, and the Qantas inflight magazine among many others. He has managed his own publishing company (one of whose titles was Encore Magazine).
From 1985 to 2004, Urban was Australian Bureau Chief for the London-based international film industry publications, Screen International and latterly Moving Pictures. In 2005 he was invited to present a regular contemporary movie course for Sydney University's Centre for Continuing Education called Movies Now which has run for a 6 week term several times a year.
In his other capacity, he has been the creator and interviewer of Front Up (1991 - 2004), an SBS television program in which he met people at random in the streets of Australia and had a conversation about their life experiences. Urban presented movies as Channel Host for subscription channel, World Movies, from April 2002, introducing the highlights of each week on Monday nights, and the Sunday Premieres, and presented nearly 900 movies by the time his tenure ended in November 2006.
In January 2007, he was commissioned to edit and produce The Knowledge, an ongoing series of on-camera interviews for the Centre for Screen Business at the Australian Film Television and Radio School, exploring the specific nature of the film and television business in Australia.'
