Alan Charles Moyle was born in Melbourne and educated at Scotch College. He was on the literary staff of the Age (1922), London Daily Press (1923, and 1932-33), and Melbourne Herald (1925), and was editor of Slipstream (1929) and Aircraft (1930). He was prominent in aviation circles in Melbourne, and took part in an aerial survey of Central Australia in 1928. In 1931 he became an Associate of the Royal Aeronautical Society, London. From 1934 he was sub-editor of the Sun News-Pictorial. During World War II he served in the Royal Australian Air Force as a Flight Lieutenant, and was discharged in 1944.
