BiographyHistory

Australian stage and film actor Geoffrey Rush grew up in Brisbane, Queensland. He worked with the Queensland Theatre Company in the 1970s and the State Theatre Company of South Australia in the 1980s. His role as the Australian pianist David Helfgott (q.v.) in the film Shine (1996) brought an international reputation and he appeared in many films in Australia and overseas while continuing his stage work.

His acting awards include those from the Australian Film Institute (AFI), British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Golden Globe), Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Emmy), Screen Actors Guild, American Theatre Wing (Tony) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscar).
