A musician and a writer, Kit Moodie has published music books as Kathleen Moodie, and short stories and a novel as Kit Moodie.
Moodie was considered to be a musical prodigy at the age of three years, and later attended the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she performed at concerts. She was stricken with encephalitis, and during her delirium was tortured by music playing in her head non-stop. This took away her pleasure in playing, but she did a little here and there, managed to win a few prizes and played her pianoforte compositions over the ABC. She also gained a diploma in performance. She married during the war and while her husband was overseas, revived a little more interest in music.
When she became a grandmother and retired from her profession as a music examiner with the Australian Music Examinations Board, she settled down to write. She sold several short stories to magazines and newspapers and was shortlisted in a novel competition.
Although she wrote a sequal to 'Dead Set-up', it remained unpublished as she felt she could not update her language as was suggested. She returned to music and made a CD in 2005 containing some of her compositions and classical works.
Moodie's other published work includes Australian Christmas: a children's opera (1978) and Action Songs for Primary Children (1882), both written as Kathleen Moodie.
