BiographyHistory

English-born Alan Tory was a Presbyterian minister at St. Stephens, Sydney, a drama critic for the Sydney Morning Herald, a broadcaster and an enthusiastic champion of a national theatre. Tory's writing on drama and theatre appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald over the initials 'A. T.'.

Tory was educated at Oxford University, travelled widely and served his journalistic apprenticeship in London. He came to Australia in 1939.
