BiographyHistory

Mary Rose Liverani arrived in Australia at the age of thirteen when her family migrated from Scotland and settled in Wollongong, New South Wales.

Liverani's autobiography, The Winter Sparrows : Growing Up in Scotland and Australia (1975), recounts a childhood spent in the slums of Glasgow and her experiences during the first years after migrating to Australia. The book has been 'acclaimed as a landmark in Australia's migrant literature'.
