A soldier takes credit for his mate Bert's bravery in order to win his girlfriend's heart. After the war he returns to Australia, where he is feted as a war hero, and marries girlfrend Molly. But following an act of cowardice, his life then starts to fall apart. He eventually fakes his own death so that Molly might be free to marry Bert and find happiness.
