A renowned economic theorist, Kelvin Lancaster was Professor of Economics at Columbia University, New York. Lancaster also held degrees in English Literature which he gained while studying at the University of Sydney during the 1940s. His academic record was so highly regarded that the faculty subsequently offered him a (declined) position teaching English Literature at the univeristy.
