Jill Golden has an MA (Hons) & DipEd (University of Sydney), Graduate Diploma in Women's Studies (SACAE). She completed a PhD (James Cook University, 1996) on children, stories and gender. After she married in 1965 she went with her husband to Canada, where they lived for 5 years, and where she worked as a high school teacher. She came to Adelaide in 1970. Since then she has taught at Colleges of Advanced Education (Torrens, Underdale and Sturt) and now lectures at Flinders University. In 2002 and 2003 she spent a total of eight months teaching at the new National University of East Timor in Dili, East Timor.
While at Sturt College she developed an introductory course of Aboriginal studies. She has also developed courses on traditional literatures and life writing. She belongs to the Writers' Centre, and has at times read at Friendly Street gatherings. She has written several children's stories which have not yet been published, wrote the chapter "Teaching Literature to External Students" in Beckingham & Gray, Life, Literature and Nursing (1993) and has contributed to the Encyclopedia of Language and Education vol 3 (Kluwer, 1997). She has two daughters.
