Lesley Thomson grew up in Hammersmith, West London, graduating from Brighton Polytechnic in 1981. After graduation she lived for some time in Australia, an experience that informed her first novel, Seven Miles from Sydney (1987). Set in Australia and in England, it tells of an English woman's growing sexual awareness following her best friend's murder. Returning to England, she became a senior manager for an internet company. In 2006 she graduated from the University of Sussex with an MA in English Literature. Her second novel, A Kind of Vanishing, was published in 2007. Set in England, it describes the disappearance of a child in 1968 and the familial repercussions of that disappearance many years later.
