BiographyHistory

Musician, painter, poet.

As a jazz pianist, bandleader, and composer, Dallwitz was an exponent of both ragtime and 1920s' big band music. In addition to leading his own orchestra, Dave Dallwitz Ragtime Ensemble, Dallwitz worked with some of Australia's more progressive musicians, notably John Sangster, Bob Barnard, and Len Barnard. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, he also contributed music to intimate revue, including Paton Place (1960).

In 1974, Dallwitz composed 'The Ern Malley Jazz Suite', which he performed for the documentary about the Ern Malley hoax, Beyond is Anything (1976), which was shot on location in South Australia.
