Having worked as a civil servant and an accountant in Western Australia, D. E. Ross married Edgar (Ross) of Toowoomba in 1937. She moved to Queensland the year of her marriage, lived in Miles for the following twenty-eight years then relocated to Dalby in 1965.
For much of her life, D. E. Ross wrote poetry and prose for a hobby. Her work has been published in a variety of newspapers and she has written several manuscripts based on her life experiences. One such autobiographical piece appeared in Yesterday's Daughters (1986).
