Sam Lipski has worked as a newspaper and television journalist.

In 2016, his book with Suzanne D. Rutland, Let My People Go: The Untold Story of Australia and the Soviet Jews 1959-1989, was joint winner of the Prime Minister's Literary Award (The Prize for Australian History).
