Kostas Athanasiadis completed his secondary education in Greece and studied political science and agriculture before becoming a journalist. He lived in Melbourne for twelve years before re-migrating to New York, where his parents had been living for some time. There he became editor of the satirical paper Kampana [The Bell].

While in Australia he contributed to the Melbourne periodicals Ikoyenia and Ellino-Afstraliani Epitheorisi as well as the newspaper Afstroellin. In 1957 he was editor for a month of a bi-weekly newspaper Elliniki Foni. He also translated several texts on Cypriot farming practices, notably The Alphabet of the Cypriot Farmer (1949) and A Practical and Scientific Method of Gardening (1951). His first published novel in Australia explored the immigrant experience of Australian life.
