BiographyHistory

Born in Paris, Goring was raised in Sydney by relatives after the death of his mother. He was educated at both The University of Sydney and Melbourne University, contributing to the Bulletin and Melbourne Punch. He was later instrumental in establishing the Society of Artists. He also set some poems by Banjo Paterson and J. Le Gay Brereton Jnr (qq.v.) to music. He left Australia in 1904, travelling to Europe and the USA. He settled in England, commencing to write novels 'in which his Sydney friends figured, not always to their delight', according to Morris Miller. Four of these were published. He died in England in 1914.
