David Colmer studied medicine but left that to go travelling in 1982. Since then he has lived in Sydney, London, Berlin and Amsterdam. He has been based in Amsterdam since 1992 where he has worked as a literary translator. His translations of novels and poetry, including the International IMPAC Literary Award 2010 winning novel The Twin by Dutch author Gerbrand Bakker, have been widely published in Europe and in the United States.
