BiographyHistory

Graham Catt was born in the UK but emigrated to Australia with his family when very young. He began writing when he was ten years old, collaborating with a friend to create fantasy worlds filled with strange and comic characters.

Later his creative interests broadened to include art, and he left high school intent on becoming a commercial artist, but with no direction and little confidence he found himself floundering on unemployment for six months. Logical outcome of this development was to pursue a 'career' with one of Australia's largest banks. An early marriage and subsequent fatherhood saw Catt tied to this organisation for the following nineteen years.

During this period he maintained a constant, if somwhat erratic, creative output, dabbling in both pop music and cartooning, while taking occasional courses in creative writing and poetry. In 1996 he attended Adelaide's Friendly Street Poets venue for the first time, and has since made regular appearances at the monthly readings, and in the annual Friendly Street anthologies.

In the last five years Catt's writing has appeared in many magazines, journals, e-zines, and has been broadcast on radio. In 2000 he left his long-term employer to devote more time and energy to creative ventures. He has since completed a collection of short stories and a novel for children. His first collection of poems, Shooting Stars, is to be published by Ginninderra Press in late 2001.

Catt lives in the north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide with his two teenage daughters.
