BiographyHistory

Kathy Skelton grew up in Sorrento, Victoria. After completing her university education, she worked as a teacher of English and History, eventually teaching migrant English at Footscray Secondary College. Later, in her position in the Communications Unit of the Victorian Ministry of Education, she prepared and published numerous non-fiction works on education-related issues, including Thinking About Prejudice (1984), Identifying Issues and Implementing Strategies (1985), A Review of Community Relations Strategies in Australia and Overseas (1985), the Human Rights Commission discussion paper Beyond Good Intentions : Combating Prejudice in Schools (1986), An Annotated Resource List (1988) and Press Perceptions of Non English Speaking Background Women (1989). She was also the inaugural editor of Education Quarterly. In April 2005 the Kathy Skelton Scholarship was launched at the University College, University of Melbourne.
