BiographyHistory

Roland Leach grew up in Perth's beachside suburbs. He gained a BA and Dip. Ed at the University of Western Australia and completed his MPhil in 1990 at the same institution. He has also undertaken study towards a PhD on Janette Turner Hospital. As well as being a teacher and writer, Leach was the editor of Brillig, a bi-annual literary journal of poetry and short stories for students. In 1998, he received a poetry grant from the Australia Council enabling him to travel to Easter Island, Peru and the Galapagos Islands.

Leach set up a poetry publishing company, Sunline Press, in 2000, with the stated aim of publishing Australian poets 'in hardback, elegant editions'. As of 2017, Sunline Press had published twenty collections and anthologies. More recently, he announced Cuttlefish, a magazine of art, poetry, flash fiction, and short fiction.
