After graduating in 1993 with an Arts Degree at the University of New South Wales, Frida Kitas went on to study playwrighting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
Attending NIDA's Playwrights Studio in 1996, Kitas gained experience in a course designed for students who wish to write professionally for (theatre) performance.
During this time, Kitas began to workshop 'Crossing', a play that was further developed at the National Playwright's conference and eventually published in the anthology, 4 Plays by Young Australian Playwrights (1999).
Kitas has also written several unpublished plays including 'Homer Rules!' which was performed as part of Carnivale 1999 by the contemporary Greek Australian theatre company, Take Away Theatre. In that same year, Sidetrack Theatre commissioned Kitas to write 'Burning Tammy' and 'Asphyxia' for this theatre group's major work, 'The Wound'. In conjunction with the Greek Festival of Sydney, 'Burning Tammy' has since been presented by Radio National's Airplay programme in March, 2004.
