Ivan McConchie graduated from Burwood Teachers' College, Melbourne, Victoria and began writing poetry by candlelight and kerosene lantern while teaching in country Victoria. His influences were Dylan Thomas, Judith Wright and the Kembali community, Cobden, Victoria. He died of a heart attack before his first book was published.
