American composer, dramatist, illustrator and story teller Eva Best contributed numerous articles to journals and newspapers such as the Dayton Journal, Cincinnati Times-Star, and the Detroit Free Press during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. Her short stories also appeared in prestigious magazines like Frank Leslie's, Godley's and Petersons. Although there is no record of Best coming to Australia or having any connection with the Australasian region, much of her output was reprinted here in various newspapers and magazines. Her words were also used by composer F. Wynne Jones for his song 'Lul-lullaby' (1898).
