Charles Daley was a teacher with the Victorian Department of Education for forty-six years. He was a member of the Victorian Field Naturalists' Society and a member of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria. He published papers in the journals of both societies with some papers reprinted in books and pamphlets.
As well as a selected work of poetry and short biographies on Sir John Quick and Baron Sir Ferdinand Von Mueller, Charles Daley's works include The History of 'Flora Australiensis' (1927-28), The Grampians, Victoria : Nature's Wildflower Garden and Scenic Wonderland (1931), The History of South Melbourne : From the Foundation of Settlement at Port Phillip to the Year 1938 (1940) and The Story of Gippsland (1960). He also collaborated on Victoria, the First Century : An Historical Survey (1934) compiled by the Historical Sub-committee of the Centenary Celebrations Council of Victoria.
