BiographyHistory

Ffrench was a stockman who wrote ballads. He gained an international reputation as a horseman, under the alias Jeffrey Silant. He was twice recommended for the Victoria Cross during the Boer War. After serving with the Royal Air Force during World War 1, he was killed in a flying accident shortly after the end of the War.
(Note: in some sources Ffrench's place of birth is incorrectly given as Murchison, Western Australia.)
