Neil Chick was educated at state high schools in Burnie, Launceston and Hobart and spent seven years teaching English, Social Studies and geology in various Tasmanian state high schools. He also undertook graduate research in geomorphology. His interests have included medieval, renaissance and modern music, theology, swimming, bushwalking and composing choral music, as well as writing verse.
