Philip Holdsworth worked in the Public Service and was the Secretary of the Forestry Department. He was active in the literary social scene of Sydney during the late 1880s, and became a regular contributor to the Bulletin, founded the Athenaeum Club and edited the Illustrated Sydney News. He also introduced Henry Kendall's Poems and wrote lyrics for music, including Forget Me Not : Song (1877).
Other publications include: Is the British Nation Descended from the Lost ten Tribes? An Affirmative Note (1878); Handbook no. 2 of Wm Howard Smith @ Sons (Ltd) Line of Intercolonial Steamships, with which is incorporated a Popular History of Australia (1888).
