BiographyHistory

Painter, art critic and writer Alan McCulloch's brother, Wilfred McCulloch (1910-1942), was also an artist and a friend of Arthur Boyd. The Bulletin on 2 April 1941 recounts an incident where Wilfred McCulloch enlisted in the Australian Infantry Force, just beating his brother. Alan McCulloch walked into the same recruiting point with the intention to enlist just after Wilfred was sworn-in. One brother had to stay with their widowed mother: Alan stayed and Wilfred went to war.
