BiographyHistory

Martin Middleton's family emigrated to Brisbane, where they lived in Inala, and he attended Corinda High School. He then joined the army, spending most of his time at the Lavarack Barracks in Townsville.

Middleton has always been an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy novels, making a ready transiton to writing his own. According to the authors of Strange Constellations: A History of Australian Science Fiction (1999), Middleton's first novel, Circle of Light (1990) 'opened the way for a boom in Australian fantasy publishing in the 1990s.' Circle of Light sold 15,000 copies over three printings.
