Described as a prolific writer, R. A. Moncrieff lead a varied working life as a 'newspaper man'. First employed by the [Toowoomba] Chronicle as an apprentice lino-type operator, he went on to continue working for that paper for more than fifty years. A writer of short stories, Moncrieff had many of these works published. He was well known as a bushman and naturalist, travelling widely in the Australian outback and the far north. Moncrieff also worked freelance for the ABC, writing short stories, features and talks.
