Richard Davey spent several years in a religious order before choosing a theatrical career. He worked in numerous capacities - in schools, in musical theatres and restaurant theatres in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.
In Perth he was a director of CATS (a community arts group, principally for children) and the youth director for the National Theatre of Perth, the Playhouse. After an outback tour by the Playhouse Theatre in 1972, he established the Round Earth Theatre Company, with his wife, Kathi Davey. The company toured extensively around Australia working with indigenous communities in 1973 and 1974.
the Daveys travelled extensively throughout the USA and Europe between 1975 and 1979. On their return, they settled in Tasmania and wehere Richard became the artistic director for the professional dramatic company, Zootango in Hobart from 1986 to 1992. The Round Earth Company is now operating in Strahan.
