BiographyHistory

Thomas William Heney was a printer and, from 1864 to 1875, co-proprietor of the Monaro Mercury with his cousin G. W. Spring. According to the Australian Dictionary of Biography, Heney 'was a heavy drinker', whose death in 1875 left his son in 'sole support' of Heney's wife Sarah Heney (née Carruthers).

Heney is the father of Thomas William Heney (poet, journalist and editor of the Sydney Morning Herald).
