BiographyHistory

She was born in Poland in 1947 and studied Russian literature at the University of Moscow. From 1969 to 1981 she contributed to the literary monthly periodical 'Literartura Radziecka'. From 1972 to 1976 at the University of Warsaw she compiled an edition of Russian Philology. From 1976 to 1981 she was employed as a translator. In 1972 she published her first book of poetry containing about seventy poems. In 1981 she migrated to Australia and made her home in Melbourne. During this time she worked at ANU Canberra and the University of Melbourne. Since 1993 she has worked at Monash University and made a compilation of Russian literature and also of Polish literature and culture as co-ordinator of Polish Studies. She is a writer of plays, poetry and prose in Polish and English, a translator of literature and a member of ALiTrA, the Australian Literary Translator's Association.
