BiographyHistory

Edward Davis Millen was born and educated in England. He migrated to New South Wales about 1880. At the time of his marriage in 1883, Millen was working as a journalist in Walgett. He later took up grazing leases around Brewarrina and Bourke. At the latter, he joined the staff of the Central Australian and Bourke Telegraph and later moved to the Western Herald where he was editor and co-owner with Philip Chapman until 1901.

Millen was a representative in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, and in the Federal Parliament. For a brief period in 1919, he served as Acting Prime Minister, and, in 1920, represented Australia at the first meeting of the General Assembly of the League of Nations in Geneva.
