BiographyHistory

Alissar Gazal completed her Higher School Certificate and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Political Science from the Australian National University. She has worked in the clothing industry and has run her own printing business. She read her poetry on FM2000 during the 1993 Writers' Festival. In 1991she became a performer and member of TAQA Theatre, a bilingual Arab-Australian Theatre company. In 1994 she performed in the Sydney Arab Feminist Association (SAFA) choreopoem The Politics of Belly Dancing. In 1996 she was appointed curator for the Australian Museum's Kaleidoscope Community Theatre Festival and also for The Map is Not the Territory for the Multicultural Theatre Alliance in 1998.
