Dorothy Horsfield is the youngest of five children who were raised by their engineer father in New South Wales. After studying at university, Horsfield lived in Africa and Papua New Guinea. She has been a book reviewer and journalist, and has written short stories, longer fiction, poetry and biography. She was married to the late political journalist Paul Lyneham.
