BiographyHistory

The Mount Gambier newspaper the Border Watch, begun in 1861, was published under Andrew Frederick Laurie's name. Laurie was the son of the Rev. Alexander Laurie, the founder of the Portland Herald who had died in 1854. The Mount Gambier newspaper was set up by Alexander Laurie's wife, Janet Laurie, and her then teenaged sons Andrew and James.
