JAMES AITCHISON, also writing as JIM AITCHISON, is an Australian author born 15.3.1944. His first written works were comedy sketches for Channel 7's iconic Mavis Bramston Show, scripts for ABC radio education features, and — under the pseudonym of DAVID CARRICK — a 130-episode quarter-hour radio serial titled Under Her Spell for Grace Gibson Radio Productions in 1974. From 1983 to 2010 he lived in Singapore working in advertising in both English and Chinese. As JIM AITCHISON he wrote the Cutting Edge series of advertising reference books for Pearson Education, and How Asia Advertises for John Wiley & Sons, as well as the lyrics for Singapore national songs.
Since 1998 he has written Asia's top-selling children's horror and mystery books — Mr Midnight and Mr Mystery — under the pseudonym JAMES LEE. His Mr Midnight books have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Malay and Indonesian, and have sold over three million copies. In 2013 he was awarded the Literature Prize in the Commonwealth Government's inaugural Australian Arts in Asia Awards, which recognised creativity that built bonds between Australia and Asia.
