Yvonne Fein was born in Australia to German Jewish parents and acquired some knowledge of Yiddish, Hebrew, and German. Fein has been a full member of the Australian Writers' Guild and of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (Victorian Branch). She had readings of Sarah Greenblatt Talks to the Wall and The Doctor at the Melbourne Theatre in 1984, and had other work read at Kadimah and B'nei Brith. Fein's poetry and short stories have appeared in anthologies, newspapers, and journals.
The author of three novels, Fein has worked as editor of the Melbourne Chronicle. She was awarded a Diploma of Arts (Victoria College), a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) (University of Melbourne), and a Master of Arts (Monash University). The daughter of Holocaust survivors, she has been a lecturer for the Australian Jewish Museum.
