1 Boyd v. Hawksley i "All lawyers cunning are, 'tis said;", 'Irony' , 1846 single work poetry
— Appears in: The Sydney Chronicle , 31 October vol. 4 no. 321 1846; (p. 2) 'Ironical comments on Boyd's lawyer.' (Webby) In October 1846 Benjamin Boyd brought a charge of libel against the Sydney Chronicle over a letter signed 'Robin Hood', published in the 23 September 1846 issue of the newspaper. The case, Boyd v. Hawksley, was first heard in Sydney, New South Wales, in late October 1846 with G. Cooper Turner acting as Boyd's attorney. The writer of this poem heard the arguments in court but 'found these .. insufferably dry' and wrote this 'panegyric on the overgrown zeal of Mr. G. Cooper Turner'.
